toothbrushes-225x300Trying to decide between a manual or electric toothbrush may seem like a confusing endeavor. Ultimately, the most important thing is that you brush your teeth for at least two minutes twice a day. Preferably it’s best if you brush your teeth after every meal. However, that is not always practical, especially for most people who could be at a job when they take their lunch break, and so on.

There are many electric toothbrushes on the market, some of which can cost a considerable amount of money. Determining which one is better for you is a matter of economics, but below are just a few things to consider when trying to decide between the two.

Cost.

For the most part, regular toothbrushes are relatively inexpensive. They are also much more available in almost any pharmacy, supermarket, and many other places as well. An electric toothbrush could cost upwards of $70 and more, which makes them cost prohibitive for many people.

Ease of traveling.

When relying on a manual toothbrush, it is usually much easier to travel with this than an electric toothbrush. It’s also easier to just take out and use rather than relying on electric toothbrushes.

Pressure.

When brushing your teeth, the amount of pressure you apply will depend on you and you alone whenever you use a manual toothbrush. When you’re relying on an electric toothbrush, you could end up placing too much pressure on your teeth and that can wear down the enamel.

This happens because the bristles are rotating while you’re applying pressure. You may not realize just how much pressure you’re placing on your teeth until you begin to experience sensitivity, pain, and maybe even tooth decay as a result of all of that enamel getting worn down.

Electric toothbrushes have their place, as long as they are affordable for you, you understand the limits to how much pressure you should apply when using them, and that you use them as directed.

While there are certain benefits to electric toothbrushes, nothing beats a manual one for consistent oral care.
