If missing teeth are making you self-conscious about your smile, it might be time to explore your options. At the Dental Centres, our experienced staff can work with you to restore your smile. There are a number of ways to fill in missing teeth, ranging from partial dentures to full implants. Your dentist will discuss the options with you to find the right solution for your smile. Today, we’ll take a look at some of the commonly asked questions about dental implants so you can come prepared to your consultation.

Is it painful?

Any dental surgery will cause discomfort in your mouth. However, our dental implants are performed so they can heal quickly and with minimal discomfort. After the surgery, you can manage the discomfort by icing the area and using ibuprofen for a few days after your appointment.

How long do they last?

Unfortunately, dental implants are not as durable and strong as natural teeth. However, when properly cared for, your implant should keep your smile looking great for years! Many implants have lasted for several decades and continue to provide a strong, sturdy anchor for many individuals.

What is rejection?

Rejection is an incredibly rare occurrence where your jawbone does not allow the implant to fuse to the bone. When this happens, it can become infected. If your implant does not take, we’ll remove the implant, allow the area to heal, and then try again. Often times, the implant fuses to the bone the second time.

Will insurance cover the cost?

All insurance plans are different and depending on the provider, the implant cost may not be covered. If you have questions about your dental coverage, contact your provider. They’ll be able to discuss the details with you and will let you know what is and isn’t covered under your plan.
