In previous generations, dentists were limited to the tools and innovations they had access to. These tools would be pretty much the same as they were 40 or even 60 years ago, that’s because they perform a basic task.

Most of these tools are used to pick plaque off of the enamel of the tooth. Plaque builds up regardless of how much you brush, floss, or rinse with mouthwash.

This is just about the only thing that is the same in the world of dentistry as it was 40 years ago. Today, dentists have access to much better innovations, much better techniques, and focus on comfort of their patient more frequently.

You may notice a camera scope and flat screen TV in the corner of the room. This would allow you an opportunity to see what the dentist sees. The dentist would be able to show you what work needs to be done and potential problem areas that exist.

Dentists also have better tools, devices, and techniques to clean teeth, repair cracked or broken teeth, and perform root canal procedures and even surgeries.

If you haven’t visited the dentist in many years because of a bad experience in the past, it’s time to make an appointment. You will discover that not only are waiting rooms much more comfortable, appointments generally start on time, dental professionals are more attuned to the specific fears and concerns their patients have, and offer many more options with regard to anesthesia, pain management, and effective procedures.
